AI Video Model Comparison: Choose by Input, Limits and Evidence

Compare 21 configured AI video options by input, duration and resolution. Includes a repeatable acceptance test and three historical MiniMax H3 outputs.

Updated

Create with VidVid

The best AI video generator for your job must first accept your source material and deliver the clip length and resolution you need. Filter those constraints before comparing visual quality. A text-only model cannot preserve a supplied product photo through an image-to-video workflow, and a four-second clip is not a substitute for a required eight-second shot.

This guide covers 21 video options configured in VidVid, checked on 20 October 2026. The capability table describes our integration configuration, not 21 completed generation tests. The MiniMax H3 section contains three previously recorded outputs; it does not establish a cross-model winner.

Choose a workflow before a model

Your starting material First filter Acceptance check
A prompt with no image Text-to-video endpoint Does the first second establish the intended subject and action?
A product photo or approved character image Image-to-video endpoint Does the silhouette, label, face or clothing remain recognisable throughout?
Several reference images An endpoint that accepts reference images Which image controls identity, scene and framing? Check each separately.
An existing clip Video edit or extension endpoint Does the edit preserve the required content, or does the continuation join cleanly?

For a supplied still, begin with the image-to-video workflow. For a new scene from a written brief, use text-to-video. These are input decisions; they are not quality rankings.

AI video model comparison: inputs, length and resolution

The entries below come from VidVid’s model configuration. A range means every whole second in that range is listed; comma-separated durations are discrete choices. Listed durations and resolutions are not a promise that every combination will succeed: endpoint-specific restrictions and the controls available in the studio still apply. “Native output” does not mean selectable 720p or 1080p.

Four boundaries that change the shortlist

Vidu Q4 single-image and reference generation are different workflows. The single-image endpoint accepts one image; its provider documentation says framing follows that image rather than a separate aspect-ratio parameter. Crop the source deliberately before generating. The reference endpoint requires images. WaveSpeed documents up to 15; VidVid currently limits this workflow to 12. Do not turn the reference option into a text-only test. See the single-image endpoint documentation and reference endpoint documentation.

Sora 2 here is text-only. The current integration exposes its text-to-video endpoint at 720p, with 4, 8, 12, 16 or 20 seconds. It is not a candidate for a supplied-photo preservation test. This boundary matches the WaveSpeed Sora 2 endpoint.

Resolution labels are not interchangeable. MiniMax H3 lists 768p, not 720p. A historical 768p H3 output should not be presented as a controlled 720p comparison. Native-output options also need inspection of the delivered file before you can claim a pixel dimension.

Audio needs its own acceptance check. Where an endpoint provides an audio control, record whether it was enabled. Evaluate dialogue, timing and unwanted sound separately from image quality. This table does not establish equivalent audio features across all options.

A comparison you can actually repeat

  1. Write one acceptance brief before generating: input material, required duration, aspect ratio, delivery resolution and three rejection conditions. For a product clip, those might be a warped label, a changing silhouette and a cropped product.
  2. Select two candidates with the same input type. Intersect their supported durations and resolutions. For example, Sora 2 and Veo 3.1 Fast can both be configured for a 4-second, 720p text-to-video comparison. A universal five-second test would exclude Sora 2.
  3. Reuse the exact prompt and source assets. Record the endpoint, settings, audio state and prompt-expansion state where available. If one endpoint rewrites prompts and the other does not, disclose that difference.
  4. Set a credit cap and a maximum number of attempts before starting. Score every delivered attempt against the acceptance brief, including rejected clips. Record request failures separately; inspect the actual credit ledger rather than assuming a refund or charge.
  5. Compare usable outputs, not just the best-looking sample. Report the number accepted, number delivered, elapsed time and actual credits deducted. With zero accepted clips, report “no usable output within this budget”; a cost per accepted clip is undefined.

At the configuration checked for this update, the matched four-second 720p text example is 80 credits for Sora 2 and 240 credits for Veo 3.1 Fast. These are calculated VidVid quotes, not measured deductions or a claim that either model produces a better result. Recheck the studio quote before submitting. Use the pricing and accepted-clip budgeting guide to decide how many attempts fit your budget.

Do not average scores across different jobs to declare a universal winner. A product clip with a damaged label fails its brief even if its lighting is attractive.

Measured: MiniMax H3 output at 768P

This article retains three historical MiniMax H3 generations through the official API at 768P: one image-to-video and two text-to-video runs. The files, prompts and settings are included below. These runs provide examples to inspect, rather than a cross-model ranking.

Prompt we sent (as run): A slow macro push-in on a matte ceramic object, realistic reflections, black studio background, premium commercial lighting, the object keeps its exact shape, no deformation, 5 seconds.

These are three single runs of one model, retained as historical evidence. Their delivered dimensions, duration and timing describe those files only. They do not measure reliability, other models’ speed, or the current credit deduction. To compare H3 with another option, use their shared settings; do not require every candidate to offer 768p.

Frequently asked questions

Which AI video generator is best for a product image?

Start with an image-to-video endpoint and reject outputs that change the product silhouette, label or colour. Compare candidates using the same image and supported settings. This page does not establish an overall quality winner.

Can I compare every model at five seconds and 720p?

No. Sora 2 offers 4, 8, 12, 16 or 20 seconds in the current configuration; Framepack offers 2, 4, 6 or 8. MiniMax H3 lists 768p rather than 720p. Use settings shared by the chosen pair, and disclose any mismatch.

Does Vidu Q4 Reference work without reference images?

WaveSpeed documents reference images as required. VidVid currently caps reference images at 12. For a prompt without images, choose a dedicated text-to-video option.

Are the listed video models free?

This table does not establish a free tier. Generation uses the credits shown in the studio before submission. Provider documentation, promotional access and VidVid credit pricing are separate things.

Sources and what remains untested

The table was checked against VidVid’s model catalogue, credit calculator and request adapters on 20 October 2026. The linked WaveSpeed endpoint documents support the Q4 and Sora input boundaries. The embedded H3 files are the output evidence available in this article. No new paid runs or cross-model quality benchmark were conducted for this update.

Next, choose two compatible candidates in the model catalogue, save the acceptance brief above, and check their live quote in the studio. A useful result is a model that repeatedly passes your brief within budget; this page does not claim every configured option has already done so.
